Today, the Hakuho Foundation began accepting applications for the 14th Hakuho Japanese Research Fellowship.

Objective
The Hakuho Foundation Japanese Research Fellowship invites leading international researchers of the Japanese language, Japanese language instruction, Japanese literature and Japanese culture to Japan to conduct residential research.

Eligible Research
Japanese language, Japanese language education, Japanese literature and Japanese culture research

Eligible Researchers
Researchers working in the fields of Japanese language, Japanese language education, Japanese literature or Japanese culture who reside outside Japan and meet all of the specified criteria (see Application Guide).

Support provided
Return economy class air tickets
Living and research expenses: 350,000 yen per month
Housing subsidy: up to150,000 yen per month
Fellowship Period
Long-term (1 year): September 1, 2019–August 31, 2020

Short-term (6 months): September 1, 2019–February 29, 2020 or March 1– August 31, 2020

Schedule
Application period: June 8–October 31, 2018

Notification of results: Early April 2019 (tentative)

Hakuho Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation based in Tokyo, Japan, was established in 1970 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of Hakuhodo Inc., a major Japanese advertising company. With the vision of contributing to children’s growth through the power of language, the Foundation helps support child education through such initiatives as the Hakuho Award, the Hakuho Research Grand for Child Education, the Hakuho Foundation Japanese Research Fellowship, and the Hakuho Scheme for a Global Children’s Japanese Language Network.
